2012 Vitesse Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
HARVEST The 2012 growing season resulted in a phenomenal bounty of perfect fruit. It was marked by a drama-free spring, low rainfall, moderate summer temperatures and several heat waves at the close of the picking season that accelerated the grapes into perfect ripeness. We are quite happy with the results, which gives our Vitesse a beautiful balance of deep color, structure and concentration. TASTING NOTES 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec (all five of the traditional red Bordeaux varieties) Grown predominantly on Spring Mountain with a small amount of Diamond Mountain grapes. Alcohol 14.5% Residual Sugar 0.10% Volatile Acidity .72 g/L Titratable Acidity 6.4g/L pH 3.72 Winemaker Miquel Caratachea’s care of the fruit blessed us with a spectacular wine that displays a bright garnet hue and enticing aromas of frambois, vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is rich and textured, with flavors of current, sweet cassis, huckleberry and pencil shavings all carried by an underlying river of spicy, supple tannins through the long finish. Drink now or cellar for 8 years or longer. |
2013 Vitesse Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
HARVEST Napa Valley’s 2013 harvest was considered a repeat of the 2012 harvest, characterized with a warm, dry spring, early bud break and other near perfect conditions to create for exceptional fruit. Temperatures were rarely variable with the exception of one heat spell in late June, which helped the vines stay healthy and supported consistent ripening of the grapes. By October when the varietal was harvested the grapes had experienced a long hang time that provided spectacular flavor and yields. TASTING NOTES 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot. Grown predominantly on the hillside part of Rutherford and Spring Mountain. Winemaker: Miguel Caratachea Alcohol 14.5% Residual Sugar 0.24% Volatile Acidity .79 g/L Titratable Acidity 6.3g/L pH 3.81 Color: Vibrant garnet hue with a deep purple core. Aromatics: Bing cherry and dark mocha with a dusting of vanilla and framboise. Palate: Rich and mouth-filling with ripe flavors of cassis, dark chocolate with coffee, huckleberry and a slight dustiness of graphite on the persistent finish. Structure: Acidity and tannin are in perfect balance with fine-grained tannins, richness and weight, and great persistence in a long finish. |
